An enclosure with an open view

Chain link defines a boundary while leaving the view through the fence open. Tell us what the enclosure is for and which sides of the yard need fencing. If you want privacy as well, compare a wood or vinyl privacy fence before choosing the final material.

Specify more than length and height

Mesh, posts, rails, fittings and coating are all part of the quoted system. Ask the installer to identify the specifications and finish rather than comparing estimates that simply say “chain-link fence.”

• Measured length and proposed height.
• Mesh specification, coating and color.
• Posts, rails and corner or end assemblies.
• Ground clearance and transitions on uneven areas.

Get the gate opening right

One walking gate and a larger equipment entrance are different requirements. Include the number of gates and the clear opening needed for each. Ask how the proposed gate will open and latch, particularly where a path or driveway slopes.

Replacing old chain link

A replacement estimate should state what happens to existing mesh, posts, rails and concrete. If reuse is proposed, ask how the retained parts will be assessed and how they fit the new system. Removal and disposal should be explicit line items rather than assumed.

Privacy inserts need a separate discussion

Adding screening changes the fence from an open mesh to a more enclosed surface. Ask the installer whether the specific fence system and site are suitable for the proposed screening. Do not assume any existing chain-link fence can accept every privacy product.

What affects the installation estimate

Fence length, height, coating, gates, removal, access and site preparation all affect the scope. Share the project location and what you want enclosed, even if you do not yet know the exact measurements. The final quote should describe the actual materials and work.
